Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in developing new robots from scratch and through mass production. Their robots will be deployed in logistics warehouses, so they need to withstand everyday use in real-life environments, not purely R&D. - Support a small team of engineers (5-10 people) in designing new, reliable robots that are cost-effective, manufacturable, and maintainable, and scalable to hundreds. - Define functional specifications based on business and operational requirements. - Lead mechanical design and prototyping to meet requirements. - Develop assembly processes and assembly tooling. - Plan and execute QA to ensure successful deployment. - Select optimal actuators (DC motors, stepper motors, air cylinders, etc.) and power transmission mechanisms (gears, gear belts, links, etc.) to enable product-market fit. - Play a leading role in transitioning from design to production, supporting production ramp-up and ongoing production. - Collaborate with other members of the engineering and operations teams to ensure products are developed that meet all performance and quality standards in a timely manner. - Manage detailed bills of materials (BoM) and BOM costs. Work closely with vendors to develop specifications to meet cost requirements. - Lead the design of a new robot that is scalable, cost-effective, and producible with a small team of engineers (5-10 people). - Define functional specifications based on personal and operational requirements, and lead mechanical design and prototyping to meet those requirements. - Develop assembly and production processes and assembly tools. - Plan and implement QA for market introduction. - Consider the optimal method for upcoming actuators (DC motors, stepper motors, air cylinders, etc.) and power transmission mechanisms (gears, belt timing, links, etc.) depending on the application and problem. - Lead the transition from design to manufacturing and provide ongoing support for mass production ramp and beyond. - Collaborate with engineering and team operations teams to ensure timely product development that meets performance and quality standards. - Manage BoM and BoM cost details. Work closely with vendors on specification negotiations to meet cost requirements.

Requirement

- Experience in the design, development, and manufacture of reliable, durable hardware products. Experience in robotics and logistics is a plus. - Ability to find optimal, realistic mechanical design solutions under tight time constraints. - Experience using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software. - Hands-on experience evaluating and extracting hardware issues and making necessary changes for improvement. - Hands-on experience moving newly developed products from design to manufacturing and the ability to design detailed hardware specifications at a production level. - Ability to work in a fast-moving, goal-oriented environment where individuals can work autonomously with little or no assistance. - Experience in the design, development, and manufacture of reliable, durable hardware products.
